Vanessa Leigh Kite

09/02/80 ~ 07/17/04

You are dearly missed

Vanessa was as beautiful inside as she was on the outside.

She was our diamond in the rough.  She was our sunshine.

She was our joy.

Vanessa was voted the Spirit of Liberty Chapter's "Outstanding Junior" member in 2004.  She served our chapter with pride and dignity.  She paged at the Florida State conferences and in Washington DC at Continental Congress.

We bid farewell to our love and sent her on to God's Kingdom on Wednesday July 21st at Saint David's in the Pines.

Vanessa was my niece, but most of all she is my friend.  There were many years of jumping over hurdles and climbing through trenches to get her all grown up and self sufficient.  In the past few years she had found a place of satisfaction and contentment. She had also found a place of acceptance and joy with her friends in the DAR.  None of you will ever know how much you all really meant to her.  She struggled for years to find a place where she felt like she fit in.  She finally found that in serving our society and finding friends like all of you.  And for her, I would like to thank you.  I will never understand why God has felt fit to take her.  I guess he needed another angel.  Unfortunately those always seem to be the young ones.  Don’t ever take for granted the grace of a Guardian Angel, you never know who it might be.  I will never get another phone call to hear her say “okay Laural, now what do I do?”  Nor will I feel the joy that her uncontrollable giggle gave me.  Vanessa is now in a peaceful place, she really is my friend and I will miss her always.

The memorial table set up to honor Vanessa was done so to show the child that had the world in front of her.  The beautiful young woman that she grew into and a picture of her with her friends and family.  The red, white and blue scarf to show her love of country.  The white gloves of dignity, along with the ribbon of medals that she earned as a member of The Daughters of the American Revolution.  A white rose to show her purity of spirit, flowers sent by a dear friend to show the love that she shared with all those she encountered and a white candle that will burn for eternity in our hearts , as she will never be forgotten.  Last but certainly not least, her "I love Juniors" and "I Love Pages" buttons that she was so proud to be a part of.

A special fund will be created in her honor in the near future.  Donations may be made to the Spirit of Liberty Chapter NSDAR, earmarked for the Vanessa Leigh Kite Memorial fund.  Notifications will be made to all contributors once the fund has been established.

Checks may be sent to our chapter treasurer, Margaret Engelhardt
